How do you import a humanoid robot into the UAE?
In five steps, and the first is deciding whether to. A Unitree G1 costs $13,500 (about AED 49,600) on the maker's store and lands in the Emirates at roughly AED 56,000 to 59,000 after freight, 5 percent duty and 5 percent VAT, against AED 89,999 in stock at a UAE dealer with a local warranty. Importing saves about AED 31,000 to 34,000 and costs you the warranty, the wait, a TDRA customs clearance permit for the robot's radios, a dangerous-goods shipment for its lithium battery, and a customs broker. Should you import, or buy from a UAE dealer?
Import when the robot is not sold here, when you are an institution with a broker and time, or when the saving matters more than the warranty. Buy locally when you need it within days, want repairs handled in the country, or want instalments. The arithmetic in dirhams:

Step 1: what is the duty, and how is the robot classified?
A humanoid falls in the tariff chapter for machinery and robots (industrial robots sit at HS 8479.50), where duty is 5 percent of the landed value; some consumer electronics are duty-free, and UAE customs is known for strict classification and disputes. Ask a licensed customs broker to confirm the code before the robot ships, because the code decides the duty and the documents. Importing for onward sale into Saudi Arabia or another GCC state pays duty once, at the UAE border.
Step 2: which TDRA permits does it need?
The robot's Wi-Fi and Bluetooth make it telecom equipment under the TDRA. Two things follow: the model must hold TDRA type approval to be used or sold in the UAE, and, since the TDRA's February 2026 clarification, the shipment needs a TDRA-issued customs clearance permit before customs will release it. If Unitree or its distributor already holds type approval for the model, the permit is a formality; if not, an individual importer faces a registration process designed for suppliers. Step 3: how is the battery shipped?
A humanoid's lithium pack is dangerous goods. Batteries contained in equipment ship under UN 3481; batteries shipped separately under UN 3480, with stricter limits, and some carriers refuse loose lithium packs by air. Expect the maker to ship the robot by air freight with the battery installed and any spare pack separately, with surcharges. A spare battery is worth ordering in the same shipment because it costs about AED 1,800 ($500) and a second shipment repeats the dangerous-goods process.
Step 4: which documents, and who files them?
Commercial invoice, packing list, airway bill, certificate of origin, the TDRA permit and your importer details (an individual can import personal goods; a company needs a customs code). A broker files the declaration, pays duty and VAT on your behalf and delivers. Budget two to three weeks from shipment to your door for a courier or freight-forwarder consignment, longer if classification is queried. Ednex quotes about 30 days for a G1 it imports for you, which is a fair benchmark for an individual too.
Step 5: what do you not get by importing?
A UAE warranty. Unitree's warranty is the maker's, serviced by return to China or through a distributor who may decline a grey import. No instalments. No showroom. And the first-year costs, a spare battery, a case, an operator, insurance, are the same as for a locally bought robot. We compared the dealer premium against those five items in early September 2026: for a G1, the AED 31,000 to 34,000 saving is roughly what one serious repair with return shipping would cost, which is why most private buyers in the Emirates buy from stock and most institutions import.
When is importing the right choice?
For the H2, and for any robot no UAE dealer sells, it is the only choice, and the H2 at about AED 124,000 to 128,000 landed is the current case. For a research institution with a procurement office and a broker on retainer, importing a G1 EDU saves real money.
